How I Work
Every dog, every owner and every situation is unique, but most of the problems with dogs are common,
usually coming from misunderstandings in the communication, a bad management of the resources
and an unbalanced relationship.
Sometimes there are other forces in between, like tragic life experiences,
lack of experiences, genetic or physiologic disorders.
Whichever the case, my job is to help owners understand the situation, locate the problem and try to solve it.
I said try, because it is dishonest to ensure that any problem can be fixed, sometimes the journey just consists in acknowledging that there is a problem that can not be fixed, to accept it and learn to live with it.
What I can ensure is that every situation can be improved and I am here to make it happen.
The good news is that a lot of common problems can be fixed, but more important, can be prevented.
My favorite job is to lead people into the discovery of dog's world and language, to make them understand the amazing creature they have by their side and to help them construct a positive and solid relationship with their dog.
Relationship is the base of everything, whether to be constructed or repaired.
Coming to the practice, I do not work on the dog alone,
I work with the owner and on the familiar and environmental system.
I do not have a magic wand or a special recipe that works for everyone,
but I'll give you many valid means to work together
and to make you find the dimension that suits you and your dog the best.
At the base there are solid theoretical notions on communication and learning your dog's language,
because every dog has it's own dialect.
Then there are many different activities and practical approaches that works on various problems and situations, but that can become your personal life style with your dog.
The activities I found to be the best in my experience and that I use as practical approach in education and rehab are:
-
Nose Work
-
Guided Socialization with Teaching Dogs
-
Inventive Clicker Training
I do not like nor teach the classical sportive competitive activities such as :
Obedience, Agility, Utility and Defense....
Let Dogs be Dogs and spare competitive spirit for a real tug of war with our friend.
A classical walk in nature with some nose work and team play is the only sport dogs really enjoy.
